Summary of Pūhoi Community Forum meeting held on 30 June, 2026

General Business: 

Rodney Local Board: Paul Manton

RLB Plan draft version out for consultation, submissions invited eg. from small community groups by July 28th.  Road Safety Group invited to meet with AT 28th July regarding bus, footpaths etc.

Puhoi River Motors has been purchased by a local Trust and the land will be used to facilitate community needs, such as school bus turn around, and community  use of  the existing office when a small space is appropriate 

Ahuroa Rd   There are two more phases to complete sealing to primary school

Free mulch available in Gully Road. Old pine is also available. Contact Paul for entry

For  issues of concern    lodge a complaint with AC This gives a case number in order to pursue further with RLB help. 

General Business: 

  • Grazing sub license finalised for April 2026 - April 2027 

  • Daniel Watson’s proposal for community fund raising. A suggestion that the Puhoi anniversary weekend be used as the annual date for such an event. As the Bohemian  settlers arrived via the  river, an event that used the river would be appropriate

  • Approval for Wassail event 25th July as long as health and safety is covered and no car traffic on grass. This event is in Community Orchard for Orchard Volunteers,  produce  Swap members and anyone in the village who is interested. Koha would be requested to cover Celtic Ferrets fees.  

  • Proposed onsite container for orchard group, weed group, park groups, trapping group Permission currently being processed.  Depends on size. 20 ft is better for moving. 

  • Working & Community Group Updates:

  • Pūhoi Heritage Museum - thanks to all for a successful weekend.

  • Village Market - 5th July in Centennial Hall. Volunteers needed.

  • Pūhoi Library - a new resident joining as a volunteer  librarian   Megan Ede.

  • Pūhoi Centennial Hall - successful Ceilidh 28th November, suggested that tickets are released to Puhoi Village a week earlier, so that locals don't miss out.

  • Pūhoi Community Orchard - working bee 10th July 9:30 morning tea provided, bring wheelbarrows, shovels, weeding tools.

  • Landcare - 3 new volunteers, excellent response at market, FB page useful advertising. 

  • Pūhoi Pioneers Memorial Park / River Park - successful June planting as per EMP. Proposed Toyota Sept planting to complete planting scheduled for 2026. Seeking to establish a coordinated system for communication re weed control with AC. Poplar trimming approval in Community Orchard passed on to RLB.

  • Pūhoi Volunteer Fire Brigade - 

  • Pūhoi PM Park Weedbusters - KDB workshop and management plan being initiated

  • Pūhoi Emergency Group - no new information

  • Pūhoi Vision and Action - funding now used, Pūhoi Playgroup - 

  • Pūhoi Road Safety Group -re established with a view to look at footpaths, bus services and speed limits in village 

  • Waiwera Valley Association - AGM next Sunday, $7,500 from AC R & R funding

  • Pūhoi Sports Club - 

  • Slowater Scout Group -
