PCF Meeting Summary


Summary of Pūhoi Community Forum meeting held on 26 May, 2026

General Business: 

i)  Park Group now has portable signs to notify public of spraying, trapping, slips, weeding, planting dates etc., thank you Gavin for making these available.

ii) Report on RLB presentation on 20th May - clarified responsibilities of the Council and the Forum re slips and track maintenance and grazing changes as the park is revegetated 

iii) PCF Inc AGM Tuesday, 30th June @ 7:00pm, officer nomination forms here and on website or from Secretary at puhoicommunityforum@gmail.com  Subs now due $10 per household, DC to Puhoi Community Forum Inc. 12-3046-0353702-00

iv) Park Group to look at different possibilities for further clearing of weeds such as pampas and wilding pines including a community working bee 

v) Repair of the bottom stairs on the loop track being quoted by a local community volunteer. 

Working & Community Group Updates:

  • Pūhoi Heritage Museum - AGM on Sunday 24th May, Jennifer Schollum continuing as president. Celebrations for 163 years of Puhoi, tickets are $18 for lunch, or free for attendance w/o. Sat 27th, 11:00am for 10 ships celebration - volunteers for readings needed. Sunday 28th music, dancing, raffles, silent auction, traditional cooking.  

  • Village Market - moving into hall for next four months

  • Pūhoi Library - AGM on 6th June 2:30pm

  • Pūhoi Centennial Hall - 27th June Ceilidh dance; tickets at door or pre booked $20; Quiz 7th November and a silent disco is also planned.

  • Pūhoi Community Orchard - Pip away , orchard going well.

  • Landcare - ordered a new round of traps, will be back at Community market in June

  • Pūhoi Playgroup - we will  remind them of  planting - parents may like to come.with their children 

  • Pūhoi Road Safety - new group not yet convened

  • Pūhoi Pioneers Memorial Park / River Park Thanks  to Dennis, Steve and Paul for their work with their equipment for mowing. Planting date Saturday, 6th June, 10-12

  • Weedbusters - working regular weekly sessions to clear revegetation of invasive weeds.

  • Pūhoi Volunteer Fire Brigade -  summary of call outs. Reminder to book smoke alarm checks with brigade. Sky Tower challenge raised $15,000 for charity; two new local recruits, Phoenix and Charles.

  • Pūhoi Emergency Group - no new actions at this point.

  • Pūhoi Vision and Action - see attached report

  • Pūhoi Sports Club - fundraising for accessibility lift, which is costing $90,000. Kitchen cabinetry donated to be fitted along with carpet to reduce noise. Floodlamps procured by Paul Manton for night playing on field and tennis courts. Matariki spit roast event is planned for 12th July with entertainment; Casino night planned with theme Western saloon. Good volunteer roster working and member system working well, aiming for 100 members.  Loose open water swim club Sunday mornings at Wenderholm, meet at stump in carpark, 9:00am, keep in touch via WhatsApp group.  Pickleball is available on courts, when lights installed could play on Thursdays. tennis on Sundays.

  • Waiwera Valley Association - 3 large trees in river successfully removed by community after waiting 5 months for Healthy Waters to action. Slowater Scouts - about 20 kids mostly in Cubs. Fundraising for Jamboree, selling chocolate and kindling. 

Miscellaneous items - Sports Club proposed that all community groups work together to fundraise by organizing an annual, uniquely Puhoi event. Ideas discussed - cheese rolling, spouse carrying race, Best Friends obstacle course/endurance mud run. As all groups are looking for fundraiser, a one off event which everyone helps to organize would be worth exploring.
